EDU 59534: “Recreating History in Your Classroom”
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Description: History is alive once again! This course provides educators across the disciplines with innovative teaching strategies to recreate history in the classroom. Participants learn best practices in history education by participating in historical simulations, role plays and cooperative learning activities. Learn how to engage students in activities designed to meet state and national standards in academic disciplines, including social studies, language arts and reading, science, math, and the arts. Elementary, middle and high school teachers attain historical information, classroom resources and activities, and learn about community programs and websites. Teachers become immersed as students in a historical simulation in the historic 1904 Lanesfield one-room school. Participants work in groups to create interactive lessons and design simulations that utilize primary and secondary sources available from the Johnson County Museum. Relevant readings are given as part of the course.
Materials Fee: None.
Grade Levels: K-12.

Description: Get the buzz for reading in storyteller Jo Ho’s delightful program of bug stories from around the world. Adorned in a bug costume, she tells about a beetle from Brazil, a spider from South Africa, an ant from Mexico, and a cockroach from Hawaii.

Description: Enjoy a week of hands-on fun learning how American girls over time have experienced "growing up." Read from the American Girls book series, enjoy making art projects, making food from different time periods, and play games from the 1760s to the 1940s. Even put on a play to present to your parents the final day!
