Museum of History Self-Guided Tour

Tour the Museum of History's permanent exhibit Seeking the Good Life. This exhibition explores the history behind the ordinary and extraordinary people who have called Johnson County home since 1820. See how they lived, worked, and played on the farms, in the cities, and in the suburbs. Step inside a Shawnee Council House. Experience life on an 1880s farm. Walk into a Strang Line waiting station. See the 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. This tour is self-guided.
Fee: Admission is free. Limited to groups of 60.

Johnson County History Slide Show
Choose between one of our two great slide presentations: The Overview of Johnson County History, and Just Plain Simple: The One-Room Schools in Kansas. Each thirty-minute slide presentation outlines the history of the county with great photographs and images.
Fee: $25.00 per presentation. The show may be presented at your organization or at the Museum of History.
Schedule: Tuesday - Friday mornings.

The 1950s All-Electric House Tour

Go modern! Go electric! With a costumed 1950s host as a guide, visitors will experience first hand the House of the Future --- moonglow light fixtures, waist high outlets, dishwasher, and a central air conditioner. The 1950s All-Electric House offers a look at a time in Johnson County's history when the population doubled and then doubled again. Tours last 20 minutes; 10 people per tour.
Fee: $2 per person. Limited to groups of 60.
Schedule: Tuesday - Friday mornings; 10 a.m.

The 1950s All-Electric House Video

Experience the luxury and innovation of a 1954 model house with this thirty-minute video presentation. The video takes you on a house tour of Johnson County's "house of the future" - The 1950s All-Electric House. See the moon glow light fixtures, waist high outlets, appliances and design that attracted 60,000 people to the house in 1954.
Fee: $25/presentation. May be offered at your organization or at the Museum of History.
Schedule: Available year round, Tuesday - Friday.

Lanesfield School Historic Site- 18745 S. Dillie Rd., Edgerton

Lanesfield School Historic Site Tour

This forty-five minute program features an overview of the history of the Lanesfield School Historic Site, including the Santa Fe Trail, the Battle of Bull Creek, and the ghost town of Lanesfield. A costumed teacher conducts lessons in the restored one-room schoolhouse.
Fee: $1 per person. Limited to groups of 30.
Schedule: Friday and Saturday mornings only, September - May; Tuesday - Friday mornings June - August; 9:30 or 11:00 a.m.
