The Museum has a variety of fun, engaging and educational programs that can be presented at your location. To book a program, call the Museum’s Education Staff at 913-715-2550.

Outside of a 25-mile radius, add a trip fee of $20.

Speaking Engagements

All About Johnson County History
Grades: Fourth – Twelfth
Description: This 30-minute power point presentation outlines the history of the county from its beginnings to the present including early Native Americans, trail travel, settlement, agriculture, and the area’s suburban growth. Kids can touch and manipulate reproduction artifacts during the program to gain a better understanding of the ideas presented.
Fee: $25 per presentation. Limit of 60 people for each presentation.
Schedule: Available year round, Monday - Friday.

Just Plain Simple: The One-Room School in Kansas
Grades: Fourth – Twelfth
Description: This thirty-minute power point presentation tells the story of early education in Kansas. Historic photographs tell the story of the school day, teacher's lives, curriculum, the schoolchildren and more. Hands-on artifacts are passed around so each child an experience the topic.
Fee: $25 per presentation. Limit of 60 people for each presentation.
Schedule: Available year round, Monday - Friday.

Traveling Story Times
Enjoy a literacy-based program in your classroom!

On the Farm
Grades: Pre-School – Second Grade
Description: Moo! Oink! Quack! Farm animals come to life in your classroom! Students will learn about animals, farm chores, and crops through interactive stories, songs, and art activities. Programs are one hour in length.
Fee: $25 per presentation.
Schedule: Available year round, Monday - Friday.

My Community
Grades: Pre-School – Third
Description: Learn all about community without leaving the classroom! Compare and contrast urban, suburban, and rural communities. Learn about community helpers. Differentiate between wants and needs. Students demonstrate these skills and more through interactive stories, songs, and art activities. Programs are one hour in length.
Fee: $25 per presentation.
Schedule: Available year round, Monday - Friday.

Traveling Trunks
Trunks are available for teachers to checkout for one week and use in the classroom. The Johnson County Museum also offers 45-minute trunk presentations.

The One-Room School Trunk
Grades: Kindergarten – Third
Description: Based on research from the restoration of Lanesfield School, this traveling trunk explores the one-room school experience about 1904. The trunk contains slates, slate pencils, a school bell, a tin lunch box and a teacher's manual with information and activities.
Fee: $10/week. $25 per presentation.
Schedule: Available year round.

The Overland Trails Trunk
Grades: Fourth - Sixth
Description: This traveling trunk details the overland experience on the Oregon-California and Santa Fe Trails using reproduction artifacts, photographs, and classroom activities. Included in is a teacher's manual that provides information and original source materials about the people who went west.
Fee: $10/week. $25 per presentation.
Schedule: Available year round.
